The Wedding Planning Checklist
Once the marriage is fixed, Mary Jayne Dias lists a number of things to do so that it becomes easier to ascertain that everything is ready and thus avoid last minute hysterics
- Choose the kind of wedding you will have, date and time.
- Discuss the budget, and who will pay for what.
- Check state/country marriage license requirements.
- Meet the main celebrant and decide upon the theme of your marriage.
- Order wedding invitation.
- Book a choir.
- Prepare a nuptial booklet (ask the nuptial liturgy from main celebrant and hymns from choir).
- Choose florist and floral theme for your wedding.
- Meet the florist and discuss the budget, delivery and options.
- Discuss the guest list with fiancé and families.
- Reserve the wedding (church) and reception (hall) locations (at least a year in advance).
- Arrange transportation (buses) for wedding party to ceremony and reception.
- Decide upon the decoration in Church and reception and lighting and generator requirements.
- Interview caterers and discuss sample menus.
- Book the band (a year in advance) Select the Wedding Special (waltz number).
- Book a professional photographer and/or videographer.
- Make appointments with hairdresser and beautician.
- Book wedding car.
- Book the Master of Ceremonies.
- Decide upon the Toast Master.
- Choose the bridesmaids, Best Man, flower girls and pageboy.
- Select your wedding dress, veil and accessories and also that of the bridesmaids, Best Man, flower girls and pageboy.
- Discuss honeymoon plans. If travelling abroad, make legal arrangements (passport, visas, inoculations etc). Meet the travel agent.
- Arrange to pay for bride’s bouquet and going-away corsage; order boutonnieres (buttonhole flowers) for men, and corsages for women.
- Order wedding rings and pick up, check engraving.
- Help fiancée with thank-you notes.
